Singapore travel starter pack - A modern metropolis

Skyscrapers in Singapore

Singapore is a lively, thriving and above all spotlessly clean metropolis. Some say it’s boring and predictable but we think it’s well worth a visit. The city is an eclectic cultural mix; the busy markets of Chinatown, the exotic facades in Little India, and the temples and colourful decorations around Arab Street. It’s a food-lovers and shopaholic’s paradise (though the famous Orchard Road isn’t what it used to be), all in a true Asian atmosphere. If you want to escape the hectic city then go to Sentosa where you can relax on the beach, play around in the amusement parks or just enjoy the nightlife. There are plenty of museums, you can take a boat trip down the river and then there’s the famous Raffles Hotel. The MRT (metro) will get you where you want to be, fast and easy.

The award-winning Changi airport is 20 minutes drive from downtown Singapore. Your transfer from the airport to your hotel is included in this Singapore travel starter pack. We have two different hotels to choose from: a charming, characteristic 3-star hotel and a more luxurious 4-star hotel with a pool. Our selected hotels aren’t part of large international chains, but small-scale, friendly and well located for all the sights. Prices may differ during national holidays or during major conferences in Singapore.

This hotel is one of our favourites. It’s a comfortable, cosy English-style hotel with friendly staff. It’s centrally located in a green, residential area within walking distance of Orchard Road. The hotel has a lovely lobby, a piano bar, breakfast room and restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a courtyard with a large pool. Breakfast is included and served in the breakfast room or out on the poolside terrace.

Tips for our Singapore travel starter pack

Best time to travel
Singapore is fine to visit all year round. It's always hot, with temperatures between 25-30C. The weeks leading up to the monsoon (November, December, January) are particularly humid, making it feel hot & sticky. Temperatures are highest in July and August.

Singapore night safari
Pay a visit to the world’s first nocturnal animal zoo: a 98 acre piece of jungle 30 minutes drive from the city centre. As dusk falls you can follow one of the three trails into the tropical jungle and see the night-time jungle come to life with more than 1000 animals and 100 species! It’s a unique experience and a fascinating insight into the nocturnal animal kingdom. Make sure you get there around 5pm and have a bite to eat beforehand. They’re open from 7:30pm – midnight. Entrance fee is SGD 16 per person. Click here for more information. We can definitely recommend it.

Sentosa Island
This artificial beach may not be to everyone’s taste, but we certainly enjoyed it. Sentosa is one of most popular hangouts for the locals, especially the younger crowd. The island is serviced by a well-organised network of buses and trains and a one-off admission fee of SGD 2 allows you unlimited use of the island transport. We particularly liked Palawan beach, popular for beach volleyball. You can also rent a bike and head to the Underwater World. It’s worth bringing your own food and drinks, because admittedly Sentosa can be quite expensive. There are daily buses to and from Harbour Front MRT Station.
