Malaysia Transport - West MalaysiaTransport in West Malaysia offers the level of comfort you might find in western Europe, but with Asian charm and appeal. Roads are exceptionally well maintained, especially on the west coast. You'll notice a difference between travelling in Asia and Europe in the lack of punctuality in Public Transport. We always prefer travelling through West Malaysia in our own hire car. This allows you to have absolute freedom and gives you the opportunity to truly discover this country. By travelling from Taman Negara to Penang in a hire car, you're adding extra value to your trip. The trip to Taman Negara can be made by bus; this bus line does run on time. Besides, taking the bus will keep you out of the chaotic traffic in and around Kuala Lumpur. We arrange private transfers for travel on the east coast since you'll only be travelling very short distances before settling in on tropical islands. By combining a hire car with the local bus and private transfers, you'll keep your trip interesting and you'll experience the best Malaysia has to offer. |
A few days on the road with a hire car...Are you planning to travel through Malaysia for two to three weeks? If so, it isn't necessary to hire a car for the entire stay. Usually you'll want to spend the first few days acclimatising in Kuala Lumpur before heading on. There are comfortable bus lines available to the Taman Negara jungle. Once you leave the jungle, it's nice to have a hire car waiting for you. This can be completely arranged for you; your hire car will be brought to the Kuala Tembeling harbour for you. From here you can drive at your own pace and visit the tea fields at the Cameron Highlands. It's common to spend a few days there to look around. You'll can then continue on to Penang and leave your hire car behind there. If you would like to end your trip with a visit to the tropical islands on the east coast, then it's a waste to do so by hire car. It would take you an entire day to drive across the country, while you can catch a domestic flight for a very affordable price and the flight would take you less than an hour. During your stay on the islands of the east coast, a hire car would only be parked in a parking lot. This would be a waste of your money. |
Other Malaysia transport options...
| Private transfers We suggest travelling by hire car and bus on the west coast. Travelling this way on the east coast is less efficient since there are more roads travelling inland while you'll be Island hopping there. That's why we suggest travelling with a driver driven car here. Our drivers speak English well and will gladly tell you fun facts about Malaysia during your ride. This will cost you somewhere between £20 and £60 per person, depending on the distance. Bus Bus transport on the west coast is very well arranged. Busses here are quite comfortable and have air conditioning. We can make arrangements for you to travel by bus prior to your arrival. Travelling by bus will cost you approximately £15 per person. From Kuala Lumpur busses ride to Malacca, Taman Negara, the Cameron Highlands and Penang. Busses also ride daily between the island of Pangkor and Penang. Domestic flight The best way to travel between Penang and the east coast is to fly. We can book this flight for you prior to your arrival in Malaysia starting at £40. At the end of your trip you can fly back to Kuala Lumpur from Langkawi or the east coast. Air Asia is the most commonly used airline. Keep in mind that you can bring along no more than 15kg per person on domestic flights. You'll be charges approximately £2 for each additional kilogramme. Boat The only way to travel to the small tropical islands off the coast is by boat. These are usually smaller sized boats that can take you to the smaller islands quickly. Most boat rides take approximately 30 minutes. If you travel to the Taman Negara, you'll sail on a genuine wooden jungle boat for the last part of your trip. Train Malaysia has a limited railway network from south to north. It's not the quickest means of transport, since the train will stop at most train stations along the way. That's why we wouldn't recommend travelling by train. The train is only an enjoyable means of transport on the route from Singapore to Malacca or Kuala Lumpur, since the time schedule is more appealing. We can make arrangements for you to travel by train if you wish. |
Malaysia Transport in BorneoBorneo's landscape is dominated by tropical rainforest. Most areas can only be reached by air plane or by cars. For most of our Borneo tours we arrange transport on domestic flights. These flights are operated by Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines. For tours which are located in close proximity of each other, such as Proboscis monkeys and the rocky coast of Bako and At home with the headhunters on Sarawak, we use private transfers. Our chauffeurs know exactly where they're going and they will arrange transport from door to door. You'll also sail through jungle rivers in small wooden jungle boats. The most valuable means of transport on Borneo are your two feet. While hiking through national parks, you'll experience the most secluded areas while searching for orangutans and proboscis monkeys. |
