No Worries on Pulau Lang TengahOf the three islands along the north-east coast Pulau Lang Tengah is the most quiet – and least touristy. The reef around the island is a protected nature reserve and offers some fantastic Malaysian snorkelling and diving.On dry land you can go hiking along the trails into the dense jungle of the island’s interior. Day 1: Merang - Lang TengahThe crossing from Merang to Pulau Lang Tengah takes about 30 minutes. As you approach the island you’ll understand why it’s called the island for nature lovers; white sands, crystal clear blue sea and tall, waving palm trees. It’s almost too good to be true, but probably exactly how you’d pictured your perfect tropical island getaway. You’ll be staying in a one of a row of four bungalows in the tasteful well-maintained resort. The Malaysian dishes, particularly the fresh fish are amazing which is just as well as there aren’t really any other restaurants on the island. |

Day 2 and 3: Lang TengahAfter a leisurely breakfast wander over to the lovely beach in front of the resort to feel the soft, warm sand between your toes. Later on take a walk along the beautiful shore line. In front out you the clear blue sea beckons, behind you the dense green jungle awaits. It’s probably the only choice you’ll need to make while you’re on Lang Tengah but seeing as you’ll be here for two whole days you could actually do both. For less than £3 you can book a jungle trip with Daniel, who works at the resort or a half-day Malaysia snorkelling trip for around £5-6. |
Day 4: Lang Tengah - End of tourIf your travel plans allow it or if you’d like to end your Malaysia trip with an extra day on the island just let us know in your quote request form and we’ll arrange it for you. If today’s your last day you’ll take the boat back to Merang, or perhaps one of the other islands for example with our Malaysia island hopping tour.For more tropical island delights, you can take the boat to the larger island Pulau Perhentian or if you’d like to experience some traditional Malaysian culture, you can spend a couple of days as part of a local kampung community with our Malaysia homestay. Travel tipsBest time to travelLike the rest of the east coast, March – mid October. The rest of the year the islands along the north-east coast are hampered by heavy monsoon rains. Best time of year for diving is March – April when visibility can reach up to 40m. Money matters There are no cash machines on the islands so make sure you withdraw plenty of cash on the mainland. Most resorts and diving schools accept credit card. Alcohol The more traditional east coast Malaysians don’t always appreciate the use of alcohol by tourists, though on the islands, the larger resorts and a couple of restaurants alcohol is available. When you’re in public, please respect the locals and their values. Malaysia snorkelling trip The trip lasts about 3 hours. Based on 8 people it shouldn’t cost you more than £4-5 per person. |

Diving A dive (off a boat, including equipment and guide) costs around £17-18. The same applies for night dives. Diving from the beach cost around £8-9. A package of 12 boat dives including equipment and guide costs around £175, with unlimited dives off the beach. If you'd like to do your PADI Open Water course on Lang Tengah, expect to pay around £530. |
