Day 1: Kuala Lumpur - Taman Negara National Park

Travel time: approximately 6 hours (bus and boat)

At 8.00am you’ll take the bus from Chinatown to the small village of Kuala Tembeling, approximately a three hour bus ride. At the port office of Kuala Tembeling you’ll be asked to fill in your personal details for your pass to the Taman Negara National Park. You’ll need to pay a small extra fee to use your camera during your stay in the park (RM5).

It’s best to pack just the essentials in a medium sized suitcase or soft holdall for the next two days as this is all you will need while you are in the jungle. If required, you can leave the rest of your luggage in safe storage at the office at Kuala Tembeling at the port. We’ve never had any problems on our trips to this Malaysia national park, but your luggage storage is always at your own risk.

Next you’ll step onto a wooden jungle boat for a trip along the Sungai Tembeling river, past densely overgrown river banks. After about three hours you'll moor at the jetty of your resort in Kuala Tahan.

Day 2 & 3: Taman Negara National Park

On day two of your Malaysia national park adventure, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the hotel restaurant. There are many excursions that you can book locally at your resort. We believe that the Canopy Walk is an absolute highlight of a trip to Taman Negara; this is why we have included this excursion into your itinerary today. This morning you will take a guided Malaysian canopy tour, a suspending walkway that twists through the jungle treetops. From 30ft up, you’ll get a completely different perspective of the rainforest around you. The walk takes around 3 hours, so in the afternoon you can relax back at the resort and recover from the tropical heat and exercise.

This afternoon you can choose to book a rafting trip locally or visit a local village of the Orang Asli tribe, Malaysia’s indigenous inhabitants. Make sure you book ahead though at reception when you check in at your hotel. This evening you will take a guided jungle night safari tour around the resort in search of the variety of nocturnal animals and insects hiding along the jungle’s floor.

The following day you will have the day at your own leisure, perhaps you could choose to explore the many nature trails around the park or take to the river for some rapid shooting, the choice is yours.

Day 4: Taman Negara - End of Malaysia national park tour

Today is the last day of your Malaysia national park tour, and after breakfast it’s time to take the boat back from Kuala Tahan to Kuala Tembeling. The boat leaves at 9am sharp so make sure you get to the jetty on time. Downstream the boat trip takes just two hours.

Note: The return boat and bus trip back to Kuala Lumpur isn’t included in the price of this module because most travellers choose to travel on to other parts of Malaysia. Taman Negara lies right in the centre of Malaysia which means you can continue your Malaysia trip in any direction. However, if you're heading west, you could try our Kuala Lumpur visit or Cameron Highlands trip. If you continue your holiday in Malaysia eastwards, you could really experience Malaysia on a creative kampung trip or relax on the beach with our tropical trips in Malaysia.

You'll pay your entrance fee on this Malaysia national park trip in Kuala Tembeling (RM1). There is a fee of RM5 for using your camera in the national park.
