Day 1: Kuala Lumpur - Taman Negara National ParkTravel time: approximately 6 hours (bus and boat)At 8.45am you’ll take the luxury bus from opposite your hotel in Chinatown to the small village of Kuala Tembeling, approximately a 3-hour bus ride. At the port office of Kuala Tembeling you’ll be asked to fill in your personal details for your pass to the Taman Negara National Park. You’ll need to pay extra for your camera (a couple of Pounds). It’s best to pack just the essentials for the next 2 days in one bag or rucksack and leave the rest of your luggage in safe storage at the office of the Mutiara Resort in the port. We’ve never had any problems but it’s always at your own risk.Next you’ll step onto a wooden jungle boat for a relaxed trip along the Sungai Tembeling river, past densely overgrown river banks. After about 3 hours you'll moor at the jetty of your lovely resort. The resort also has an excellent (buffet) restaurant, but you can also head across the river to one of the floating restaurants in Kuala Tahan. We recommend the guided night walk for an exciting taste of the jungle, for your first night on the Malaysia canopy tours. |

Day 2 & 3: Taman Negara National ParkThis morning you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the hotel restaurant. There are many excursions that you can book locally. Be sure to make time for a guided Malaysian canopy tour (optional), a suspending walkway that twists through the jungle treetops. From 30ft up, you’ll get a completely different perspective of the rainforest around you. The walk takes around 3 hours, so in the afternoon you can relax back at the resort and recover from the tropical heat and exercise. Later on or the next day, you can go rafting or visit a local village of the Orang Asli tribe, Malaysia’s indigenous inhabitants, or take a sunset cruise - it's completely up to you. Make sure you book ahead though at reception when you check in at your hotel. |
Day 4: Taman Negara - End of tourAfter breakfast it’s time to take the boat back to Kuala Tembeling. The boat leaves 9am sharp so make sure you get to the jetty on time. Downstream the boat trip takes just 2 hours.Note: the bus trip back to Kuala Lumpur isn’t included in the price of this module because most travellers choose to travel on to other parts of Malaysia. Taman Negara lies right in the centre of Malaysia which means you can continue your trip in any direction, though the following modules are probably the most logical: East: Creative kampung life or Tropical gems on the East coast West: Twin towers and chopsticks in Kuala Lumpur or Time for Tea |

Taman Negara National Park tips... Best time to travelMarch - September. The resort is often fully booked in August, but we can offer a good alternative in Kuala Tahan. From November - February there's a risk that certain activities will be cancelled because of the monsoon. Restaurants The resort has a good restaurant but across the river you'll also find lots of fun, cheap places to eat in one of the many floating restaurants. Additional fees for (video) camera You'll pay your entrance fee for Taman Negara National Park in Kuala Tembeling. The fee is included in the module price, but you'll need to pay a small additional fee for your camera. Canopy walk If you want to do the canopy walk on your own you won't need to leave early. The canopy walkway doesn't open until 10.30am. |
