Kuala Lumpur travel starter pack - Petronas Towers

Twin towers and chopsticks

Cosmopolitan Kuala Lumpur (or KL), will probably be your first encounter with Malaysia. With this Easy Going starter pack you’ll be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel where you’ll be staying for the first 2 nights. While you’re in Kuala Lumpur make sure you visit the (until recently) highest towers in the world the Petronas Towers (now surpassed only by the Taipei 101), the neo-colonial Anglo-Moorish-style station and the ultramodern Mashid Negara mosque.

For a first taste of Asian culture head to Chinatown where you can wander through the tiny alleyways and winding streets and try some of the best food in town in one of the little restaurants. Try the Malaysian say and the fish head soup. If you want to stick a bit closer to home during our Kuala Lumpur travel starter pack, the city has plenty to offer the traveller, from fast-food chains to large air-conditioned shopping malls where you can spend all that holiday money burning in your pocket.

Option 1: Hotel in Chinatown

In the lively district Chinatown we’ve selected a basic, but well-maintained hotel. You’re in the heart of the historic part of Kuala Lumpur with characteristic little streets, cosy restaurants and the famous night market in Petaling Street. It’s also where you’ll find the Puduraya bus station, where you can catch the bus to almost anywhere in Malaysia. The historic Moorish station is within walking distance, the modern train station KL Sentral is just over 1 mile away. From your hotel you can walk to Little India with its colourful Indian shops and the Merdeka Square, or Independence Square.

Our hotel in Chinatown has a café-restaurant, a small outdoor café on Petaling Street and a music bar. Breakfast is included.

Option 2: Hotel in Bukit Bintang

We’ve selected this centrally located hotel as a comfort option. The hotel lies in the heart of the Bukit Bintang district, the commercial and business hub of Kuala Lumpur. The trendy Pavilion shopping mall is right outside the hotel and a little further up the road you’ll find all the major brands at the Lot 10. There’s a great food court on the ground floor. Bukit Bintang is buzzing 24 hours a day, so not surprisingly it’s ‘the place to be’ in Kuala Lumpur.

The hotel has a good restaurant and is very eco-minded with a water and electricity-saving policy. If you prefer a more western-style hotel in the buzzing heart of the city then this comfort hotel is a great choice.
