Day 1: Kluang - Endau Rompin National Park

Travel time: 3-4 hours

To begin this Malaysian jungle trekking adventure, you’ll travel to Endau Rompin National Park from Kluang. Depending on your transport you’ll arrive in Kluang by your private transport, transfer or train. If necessary we can also arrange your transport to Kluang for you. In the morning you’ll travel by 4WD from Kluang along bumpy roads and past immense palm oil plantations to the kampung Peta. The trip takes about 3 hours and lunch is provided. In Peta you’ll find a small wooden jungle boat waiting for you to take you up the river past densely overgrown riverbanks and screaming monkeys up in the trees. 45 minutes later you’ll arrive in Kuala Jasin in a beautiful spot where the Endau and Marong rivers join. From here it’s a short walk to the camp site where you’ll pitch up your own tent while your English-speaking guide rustles up a simple but very tasty meal by the campfire.

Day 2: Jungle trekking

Rise and shine, and first of all take down your lightweight tent. After a filling fry-up of bread with fried eggs and sausages- and of course the essential cup of tea or coffee- you’ll set off into one of the oldest jungle areas in the world. On the way you’ll cross several small rivers; shoes & socks off and in you go. The cool rivers and the small streams and waterfalls you’ll pass are a welcome relief in the sticky heat of the jungle. After a tasty lunch of fried rice and chicken you’ll continue on the jungle trek in Malaysia, arriving at the campsite in the afternoon where you can pitch up your tent again. Total walking time is about 2 hours, which believe us is more than enough in this heat.

You don’t need to, but it’s always appreciated and good fun to help prepare dinner. After dinner the guide will teach you some traditional games of the Orang Asli, the indigenous people of Malaysia, like Rattan Kerchang and Kerchang Kawin. Later on you can make a camp fire and swap stories with your fellow travellers over the crackling flames.

Day 3: Jungle treks and waterfalls

After breakfast the tents are taken down and the luggage is brought to the next campsite. From here you’ll set off through the jungle to the Buaya Sangut waterfall. According to Orang Asli believe that washing your eyes in the waterfall will save you from ever going blind, so better to be safe than sorry. After lunch at the waterfall you’ll head back down again to pick up the bags and continue on through the hilly countryside towards Kuala Jasin. On the way the guide will tell you all about the various species of birds, insects and plants. Late afternoon you’ll arrive at the campsite and once you’ve pitched up your tent again you can relax and just enjoy the fantastic surroundings, go fishing or take a dip in the river. Tonight’s your last night in the jungle so savour your last improvised campfire dinner under the stars.

Day 4: Orang Asli village - Kluang - End of trip

After you’ve taken down the camp this morning you’ll visit an Orang Asli village on foot where you’ll be given a unique and fascinating insight into how the indigenous inhabitants of Malaysia still live in their natural environment and use the river as a primary source of food. The jungle boat will be waiting to take you back to Kampong Peta (45 minutes) where you can have some lunch in a small local restaurant before the three-hour drive back to Kluang.

If you fancy some sun and sand after your jungle adventure, then head for the paradise island of Pulau Tioman. For a taste of Malaysian culture and history you can also choose to travel on to Malacca by train or private transfer.
